My office

So after a month and 1/2 of being here I am finally decorating my office space.
This little paper mache' antelope head sits between my two windows on the wall. I bought it as sort of a joke since all the engineers (my dept) and the geologist have dead deer, and other animals mounted on the wall. I obviously will not be killing any animals to hang on my wall but I figured a little paper could die. :)

These are two paintings that I painted at our local art studio with one of my ivy plants.

Last but not least I hung my diploma and set out some pics over/on the bookshelf.

That's all I have done so far, I am in no rush, looking for the perfect pieces.  I still have two rather large walls to update so Ill keep you posted as I go along!

Wedding Card Canvas

As soon as I saw this from domesticateddiva I knew I needed to make one for my wedding wall (which is in progress). Here are all the cards laid out. Using my 2: hole punch I punched out part of the cards I like and mod podged them on to two canvases.

TADA! Super easy and they will look great when I get the wall done!

Quick Update

The first week of my new job has been wonderful, I feel as if I fit in perfectly and hit the ground running since I already have knowledge about the oil and gas business, and by knowledge I mean almost 6 years of experience! :)
I have been super busy at work so no crafting happening at the house, but we did get our new wine rack installed yesterday. It covers up a blank spot in the wall were we took some low hanging kitchen cabinets down. FYI those cabinets came down over three years ago! haha. We ere in no rush though. We wanted to find something perfect, and never did so we had a carpenter friend build us one from scratch.
Ill try to post a pic as soon as it is finished.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Much needed

I took some time off between jobs, 10 days to be exact, and its been a whirlwind of awesomeness.

I have taken 10 days off in the past for the honeymoon, a trip to Steamboat in college but I have never had 10 days to be home, a staycation. It was wonderful. Mostly I shopped. At the old job the dress code was super relaxed we wore jeans most of the time, well the new job requires new clothes since we only wear jeans on Fridays. I am completely shopped out, but I did end up with 11 new pairs of pants and 13 new tops. That should cover me until I feel the urge to hit up the stores again.
I also cooked a few dinners (okay only 2 but they were from scratch!)
Attended one funeral, bummer I know. It was for wonderful husband's ex-wife's mother. Did you follow?
She was always super nice to me and always accepting of our relationship and always greeted me with a hug and a smile.

I start the new job today, so wish me luck.

PS there is so much I want to blog about but we have this over sized keyboard on our desktop and it is so hard for my tiny hands to type on!
So I am sorry for the lack of  posts during my time off but I hope to catch you up soon!

Finished product.

After multiple coats and color changes: Mine:

They wont be holding flowers in my living room but they do just fine holding paint brushes in my craft room!

*Once again sorry for the craptastic photo, and yes I was in the middle of making my candle when I photographed this

Turn used candles into new again

After seeing this on Pinterest showing me how to take this:
(and a few more that  I found) into one new candle I knew I had to try it and TADA!

It worked like a champ, it probably took me a total of two hours between melting and drying times but was super easy, and you can tell I didn't have a Popsicle stick to hold the wick so I used a spoon. I'm resourceful like that! :)

and I am sorry about the horrible pictures  I am working from home this week and by working I mean doing nothing until I start my new job on Monday! But the computer wont let me alter pics taken on my Ipad and we have an oversize keyboard that is ridiculously hard for me to type on!

All that being said I highly reccommend trying this if you have half used candles around!

Almost There

I am not really happy with the outside color, its the same chalkboard paint used in my "inspiration" (which means I totally copied her idea). I think I might mix some dark brown and white together and add a couple of coats of that this weekend and see if I like that better.

Wine glasses to vases

This is my newest project:

source: getouttamyheadplease

We have an abundance of the wine glasses with no stems, FYI they are very fragile, I think I have already broken two just putting them in and getting them out of the dishwasher! I used Martha Stewart "Scottish Highlands" green. I would recommend using a wall paint and not a craft paint as this was too think to swirl around to coat the glass and I ended up painting it on the inside with a brush.
Here's the first one with the hot glue dots and the paint, its drying, now just to coat with the chalkboard paint on the outside. I hope to show you the finished product later this week!

Turned out pretty well.

Big news

So if you have noticed I haven't been blogging as much, that's because I have been getting ready to start my new job! Yes I got a new job.
As most of you probably know I am in the oil and gas industry (which is a HUGE industry here in Texas).

Currently I work for a small independent producer, and I recently accepted an offer at a much larger independent here in town in their engineering dept.
I'm super excited and nervous.
I don't job hop much, I'm pretty stable in that aspect of my life. I worked at the credit union for 5 yrs I have been here for 5 1/2 years and I am hoping this new job will be my last. So much for retiring at 30 like wonderful husband and I (mostly I) planned to do. :)

But I seriously love this industry. I will be handling all of the state reporting, which there is a ton and their well files and stuff. Its a pretty big job, but I know I can handle it!

Wish me luck!

Painted flower

Its looking better, It's almost not too ugly to throw away!

I'm not a painter

I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this, I cannot paint. I cannot draw.
My friends child is having her first birthday and since she doesn't need clothes or any other necessities I thought I would make her something. So i bought a metal flower with plaque at Michael's with grand visions in my head. So far I have this:
Not impressed huh? Me either.
I had better think of something quick considering the party is on Saturday.

Ink stain shirt Fail

This weekend I attempted to do this:
Source and this is what I ended up with:

The instructions say to then wash it in cold water to set the color. Here's what I ended up with:
 a pink shirt
a formerly yellow towel now pink
and a washing machine that now has a black ink stain in the bottom. Oops!

This is how the conversation went:
Me: "Honey I think it may be time for a new washing machine."
Husband: "Why?"
Me: "NO reason"...muttering to myself ," I'm sure its nothing bleach cant get out"
Husband just starts laughing at me.

I most definitely do not recommend this project! :)

Saturday Shopping

I finally got around the photographing my purchases from the Dallas trip with my mom and some things I bought last weekend. All the shoes came from DSW. If you have not visited these stores online or in person you are missing out, I highly recommend doing so. They have great shoes at great prices. Here are my purchases.

These are Calvin Klein's. Love them and the dressy/casual feel.

I get new Kenneth Cole flip flops every yr, Love them!

The giraffe print are a brand called Kelly & Katie. This is a brand I have a couple of pairs from and I am really liking them
Last but not least my pink Sperry's. I also invested in some crosses for my cross wall. I am always on the lookout for crosses

Believe it or not I only spent $37 at Coach. I invested in a sunglasses holder and a pony tail scarf.
This last weekend I also invested in a glass duck paper weight. It was only $1.50 and I couldn't resist!

While my mom and I were in Dallas we also bought some plates and candle sticks to make our own cake stands. Ill be sure to post about all that later!

This could be why my clean clothes always have dog hair on them.

That would be Squatty Body rolling in them.

I just can't resist letting him on the bed, he loves to roll in warm clothes and towels.
Plus he's just so dang sweet.

It's a Monday

I did zero crafting this weekend, but I did have a wonderful Saturday shopping with my mom and Sunday wonderful husband and I worked in our yard all day. I have the sunburn to prove it!

Saturday evening I went to make my usual banana bread, and discovered we were without eggs. I only need one for the recipe so I decided to skip it.

The bread came out of the oven looking as good as normal.
Then after five minutes it sank.
and continued to sink. It only fills up the pan about 1/3 of the way up.

Luckily it still tastes wonderful, it is just a little more dense than normal almost like a very moist banana cake.
And we all know I love me some cake!

Have a great week!

Experiencing Technical Difficulties

OK maybe not technically technical difficulties, but I seem to have lost my craftspiration. Get it crafty inspiration=craftspiration.

Heres a few reason why, we had a friend in town for two weeks, then I went shopping on our 4 day weekend trip. I will post pics of my finds I promise! Wonderful husbands dad came to visit, we are working to get the garage ready to be redone since the ceiling collapse. (they start Monday! WOO-HOO!), and I have had a lot going on at work, plus its been rainy and overcast the last week or so, and I just lose all motivation without sunshine!

But hopefully, this weekend things will change. Wonderful husband is at the lake, so I hope to work on some more book page flowers for my moms wreath this afternoon and make some more banana bread( I think I am addicted). Tomorrow my mom and I have a full day of shopping planned. We love to shop!
Also I hope to do a little Clothing DIY this weekend, as well as, re pot some plants and do some much needed work in the yard.

So here's to a productive and wonderful weekend to all!

Eye Make up Remover

I ran out of eye makeup remover over the weekend and asked my mom what she used since soap and water were not taking care of it and I was waking up looking like a raccoon.

She said she used..get this....Vaseline.

I have to admit I was rather skeptical, but I tried it and amazingly it worked like a champ.
All you do it rub it on your eyes then use either your washrag or an eye makeup remover pad and wipe it and all your makeup away!

I may not use it all the time but it will come in handy when I run out of my eye makeup remover!

Dresser Reveal

I finally finished my dresser.
If you remember it started out like this:

Plain Jane blah wood.
I used these paints from Home Depot for my base colors

The third green and Summer Citrus, both were Behr plus Primer.

I also used the fabrics I talked about here .
All I did was lay the drawer out and trace on the back of the fabric, which I had mod podged on. I have read that it helps to keep the fabric from fraying after you cut it and make it a little easier to work with.

And here is the finished product!

The knobs are from Hobby Lobby.
I'm really happy with how it turned out.
What do you think?
