Saturday Shopping

I finally got around the photographing my purchases from the Dallas trip with my mom and some things I bought last weekend. All the shoes came from DSW. If you have not visited these stores online or in person you are missing out, I highly recommend doing so. They have great shoes at great prices. Here are my purchases.

These are Calvin Klein's. Love them and the dressy/casual feel.

I get new Kenneth Cole flip flops every yr, Love them!

The giraffe print are a brand called Kelly & Katie. This is a brand I have a couple of pairs from and I am really liking them
Last but not least my pink Sperry's. I also invested in some crosses for my cross wall. I am always on the lookout for crosses

Believe it or not I only spent $37 at Coach. I invested in a sunglasses holder and a pony tail scarf.
This last weekend I also invested in a glass duck paper weight. It was only $1.50 and I couldn't resist!

While my mom and I were in Dallas we also bought some plates and candle sticks to make our own cake stands. Ill be sure to post about all that later!

This could be why my clean clothes always have dog hair on them.

That would be Squatty Body rolling in them.

I just can't resist letting him on the bed, he loves to roll in warm clothes and towels.
Plus he's just so dang sweet.

It's a Monday

I did zero crafting this weekend, but I did have a wonderful Saturday shopping with my mom and Sunday wonderful husband and I worked in our yard all day. I have the sunburn to prove it!

Saturday evening I went to make my usual banana bread, and discovered we were without eggs. I only need one for the recipe so I decided to skip it.

The bread came out of the oven looking as good as normal.
Then after five minutes it sank.
and continued to sink. It only fills up the pan about 1/3 of the way up.

Luckily it still tastes wonderful, it is just a little more dense than normal almost like a very moist banana cake.
And we all know I love me some cake!

Have a great week!

Experiencing Technical Difficulties

OK maybe not technically technical difficulties, but I seem to have lost my craftspiration. Get it crafty inspiration=craftspiration.

Heres a few reason why, we had a friend in town for two weeks, then I went shopping on our 4 day weekend trip. I will post pics of my finds I promise! Wonderful husbands dad came to visit, we are working to get the garage ready to be redone since the ceiling collapse. (they start Monday! WOO-HOO!), and I have had a lot going on at work, plus its been rainy and overcast the last week or so, and I just lose all motivation without sunshine!

But hopefully, this weekend things will change. Wonderful husband is at the lake, so I hope to work on some more book page flowers for my moms wreath this afternoon and make some more banana bread( I think I am addicted). Tomorrow my mom and I have a full day of shopping planned. We love to shop!
Also I hope to do a little Clothing DIY this weekend, as well as, re pot some plants and do some much needed work in the yard.

So here's to a productive and wonderful weekend to all!

Eye Make up Remover

I ran out of eye makeup remover over the weekend and asked my mom what she used since soap and water were not taking care of it and I was waking up looking like a raccoon.

She said she used..get this....Vaseline.

I have to admit I was rather skeptical, but I tried it and amazingly it worked like a champ.
All you do it rub it on your eyes then use either your washrag or an eye makeup remover pad and wipe it and all your makeup away!

I may not use it all the time but it will come in handy when I run out of my eye makeup remover!

Dresser Reveal

I finally finished my dresser.
If you remember it started out like this:

Plain Jane blah wood.
I used these paints from Home Depot for my base colors

The third green and Summer Citrus, both were Behr plus Primer.

I also used the fabrics I talked about here .
All I did was lay the drawer out and trace on the back of the fabric, which I had mod podged on. I have read that it helps to keep the fabric from fraying after you cut it and make it a little easier to work with.

And here is the finished product!

The knobs are from Hobby Lobby.
I'm really happy with how it turned out.
What do you think?

Headed to Big D

Today my mom and I are headed to the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex to start our 3 day shopping excursion.
Wonderful Husband agreed to forgo his trip to the lake and stay at home to take care of our baby dogs (thanks honey!) So I wouldn't have to worry about them while I was away.
Cant wait to show you what I get next week, also the big dresser reveal is Monday so make sure to come back and check that out!

Have a great weekend!

Frito Chilli Cheese Wrap

We have this thing down south called a Frito Chili Cheese pie, if you have never heard of it you are missing out. Basically its Frito's, chili and cheese in a bowl and its delicious.

I have taken that and rolled it into a tortilla and made a most delicious wrap.
Here's what you will need:
and foil (not pictured)
I preheated my chili on the stove but you don't have too. You can heat it up on the oven with your wrap.
You start with laying out some Frito's on your tortilla

Add chili and cheese on top

Wrap in foil, and I put in the over for 10 minutes on 350, just to melt my cheese and warm my tortilla, if you have not preheated your chili you will need to cook it a little longer.

And here is the finished product. I opened my up since I am horrible at wrapping burritos and I wanted to show you all the goodness on the inside.

These are absolutely amazingly  good, and are super easy and quick to make  for dinner, lunch or anytime!

Moms Birthday

I took my mom for a special birthday dinner Saturday night at a place about an hour and a half from here called Wildcatter Ranch. While we were waiting on our table we had drinks at the bar and I happened to notice the ceiling was covered in corks, and I loved it. I have the perfect place to do something like this except not on the ceiling. I had always looked at cork boards as like a picture. Put the corks in a frame and then move the frame where you want it, but I love the idea of making them permanent. We tore down a cabinet that hung over our bar but was super low and blocked tall husbands view into the living room and really was just an eyesore. But since we did that we have a small wall space that is not textured nor painted. This is where i envision our cork board. Hope wonderful husband agrees!
I'm not sure you can tell by the picture but they have framed the lights with the big round champagne corks as well.
So back to the birthday, although it was a dreary rainy day, my mom and I had a delicious dinner with a few drinks, and talked and laughed and had a wonderful time for her birthday.
We also have what has become a tradition our three day Dallas/Fort Worth shopping spree this week. We will leave on Thursday and come back Saturday. The  DSW's and all the vintage stores better watch out, because we will be there in a few days!
I cant wait to share what all I get!

Our home

We had some of the sheet rock that was sagging in our garage. Wonderful Husband finally found a contractor to fix it and he came over to look last Saturday and give us an estimate on the repair.
This is what we woke up to on Sunday morning.

What are the odds that this would happen the day after we have someone out to talk about fixing it?
Luckily I park my Beamer on the other side of the garage and since we had pulled the cars out that day for the contractor, Husbands was still parked outside. But it had been raining (all day) so when this fell my car was still wet, and now is also covered in dust. It looks awful!

We told the guy to give us two weeks to clear all the stuff out, but I do believe we will be cleaning it out and getting him to fix this problem sooner than that!

Book Page Paper Flower Wreath

A while back my mom and I saw a wreath very similar to this one at at a store in town.
She wanted to buy it, and I told her not to that I would be happy to make her one. I have been eyeing paper flowers for a while now and this was the excuse I needed to try it. We went to a book sale and bought two of the fattest paper back books we could find for $1.00.
So here are my three first paper flowers ever.

The middle one was my first one, and ironically it is the best looking in my opinion. I think I started focusing too much after I made that one and the following two aren't quite as pretty. I'm hopeful that I can get on some sort of a roll and they will all look beautiful from here on out! (Fat chance, but thats the beauty of handmade)

Stephanie Lynn has a wonderful tutorial for making these flowers
They really are not that hard, all you need is a book, lots of hot glue, some time and some patience!

Mod Podge Glitter shoes

I tried my hand at glittering the heels of a pair of heels I own over the weekend.
I don't wear them very often so I wasn't worried if I ruined them. I've seen these all over Pinterest but I didn't use any one source, or any source for that matter just free handed it. Here's what you will need:
Mod podge
Paintbrush (not shown)
Glitter ( I used Martha Stewart, Florentine Gold and Smoky Quartz mixed together)
and a pair of heels.
First I seriously underestimated the amount of glitter needed in the mod podge, after my first try you couldn't even see the glitter, so I added more glitter to my mix. It was like 99/100ths glitter 1/100th Mod Podge by this point and I believe that is about how much you really need for the glitter to show.

This is after my second coat, I have no patience so while waiting for it to dry I decorated more areas.
Like the black fabric above the heel, the rim of the shoe,  and one of the layers closest to the toe.
And here is the finished product! I could have kept adding glitter to completely cover the black but I liked the black peeking through.

I cant wait to wear them!
Hope this helps anyone who may be trying this in the future!

Sock bun hair

I decided to give the sock bun curls that I wrote about here a try.
Although I didn't have wet hair, I just pulled the top half up and the bottom half into to two separate sock buns and slept on them overnight.
I just knew this was going to be my first "Pinterest Fail", I was mentally writing the fail post in my head as I was taking my hair down.
But it wasn't a fail. It actually looked really good. Wonderful husband was not home to take the pictures so unfortunately they aren't that great. But it gave my hair loose waves and a lot of volume.
Yes I am in my bathrobe, no judgement please! I was getting ready for work.
So my hair looked great, for about 5 minutes. Even though I sprayed it with hairspray before I rolled it up and again after I let it down, it was just too heavy.
I ended up pulling it into a high pony and it held up great. Instead of being flat and boring, the pony tail had some bounce and volume. The few strands that weren't as wavy I simply wrapped around my Chi and gave them the waves to match.

I will be trying this again with slightly damp hair and maybe some stronger products to see if it will hold, but all in all I was very impressed!

My Obsession

Little orange candies, AKA circus peanuts.
Which unfortunately are sold at both Hobby Lobby and Micheals. Two of the stores I frequent most often.

The worst part, sometimes I go to the stores and look around just to be able to buy the candy.

Easy fix for static cling

I have a skirt that has two layers and they always stick together and drive me crazy, so i read about a quick fix with a safety pin (forgive me because I don't remember where I saw it so I have no source)

I put a safety pin on the inner layer on each side like so:
and it actually worked! Although it did not keep the inner layer from sticking to my leggings, but I could have probably put on on the other side of the skirt against the legging and it would have solved that problem.

Just to be super clear you put the safety pin on the seam between the two layers you want to separate!

So if you suffer from static cling in the winter like we do in North Texas try this and let me know if it works for you too!
